The celebration of creativity – the journey of the BUM Workshop Festival from idea to realization

How would you summarize the atmosphere and success of the weekend festival? What feedback did you receive from the participants?

Workshops took place in four thematic streets and districts, at twelve locations, from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. The atmosphere everywhere was cheerful and warm, filled with laughter and conversation. We feel that we succeeded in creating a true intellectual and creative oasis amidst the rush of everyday life. In small and large groups, participants engaged in deep creation; they didn't just take part in programs but had the opportunity to get to know themselves better and unfold their creativity. Some came to relax and unwind; some came to meet personally with a creator or entrepreneur they already knew and liked; and some aimed to improve, acquire new skills, or create something unique. Like-minded people with shared interests met each other, making it easy to connect, and participants motivated and inspired one another. In addition to an entertaining communal experience, there were opportunities for individual growth everywhere, with instructors paying special attention to the participants so they could genuinely take home new knowledge or unique creations, thus ensuring a successful experience.

What workshops could someone attend if they participated in the event?

As organizers visiting the locations, I witnessed the birth of unique jewelry made from recycled, cast wax, and even freshly 3D printed materials; immersion in the world of personal fate patterns; the controlled chaos of colors and forms on canvas; much laughter in an adult drawing class, placing ancient craft techniques in a modern context; and how joint creation can strengthen bonds between generations. And I experienced everywhere the joy of creative energies, the soaring of imagination, and free creation in a safe creative space. The true magic of the festival did not come solely from the variety of programs but from this special atmosphere that enabled everyone to find a creative form that resonated with them while becoming part of an inclusive, inspiring community.

Where did the idea for the festival come from, and what motivations guided you in its organization?

We maintain active relations with businesses in our community, and we have long been providing opportunities for thematic streets to host various individual and communal events on our different platforms. We encounter many exciting programs in the course of our work, and we ourselves enjoy attending various workshops since it is thrilling to become a potter or a jeweler for a day, to learn new things, be it new forms of movement, or to develop a bit in our work by acquiring some professional skill, or through self-knowledge in various mental hygiene occasions. It is a complex, rich experience. For some time now, we have been nurturing the thought that we would like to create an event where these creative and developmental activities are in focus, and where the creators of the streets and visitors wishing for creative relaxation can meet. The special atmosphere of the thematic streets provided the perfect background for this concept. Our goal was for participants not just to be spectators but to become active co-creators.

The program also offered workshops for those who associate craftsmanship with environmental awareness.

We are pleased that some businesses focused their workshops on sustainability, where not only creative processes took place but also everyday environmental awareness and sustainability decisions were emphasized.

How does the festival fit into BUM’s core mission and values? What do you consider the greatest success of the festival?

This event combines the values and goals for which BUM works day by day. Community building, value creation, supporting the growth of small businesses, enriching the city's cultural palette, involving city dwellers in the life of the streets - we believe these goals beautifully connect in the Workshop Festival. The success of the event clearly indicates that there is a demand for such community programs where people can step out of the digital world and gain real, tangible experiences. The greatest recognition for us was when participants asked: when will the next one be?
