Shopping Streets in Győr, or: Collaboration Reloaded
Shopping and Thematic streets, shopping streets, and main streets can be found not only in Budapest but also in several parts of the country. However, at this moment, our only sister organization in a formal organizational form exists in Győr. The foundation was established by the presidency of the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 2007.
Activities of the foundation:
- Establishing cooperation with other state, local government, and civil organizations that define similar goals, publishing joint publications, organizing joint programs;
- Preserving the downtown commercial culture based on traditions by organizing common campaigns, programs, and distributing publications;
- Supporting the joint advertising and marketing activities of business operators preserving downtown commercial traditions, preserving cultural heritage, and participating in organizing these activities.
Previously, we also initiated a program aimed at establishing active cooperation with other similar organizations in the country, but the difficulties of recent years posed some obstacles. However, in 2025, with renewed strength and the support of the renewed Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, we have embarked on exploring entrepreneurial communities and establishing relationships again, in order to create a strong network by sharing our experiences and assisting each other.
Although we have visited Győr several times in the past and they have also visited us in Budapest, we would like to learn about their situation, programs, plans, and establish an active daily connection once again. Therefore, on May 9, we visited the Győri Bevásárló Utcák Alapítvány, who were organizing their II. Beer and Arts Festival at Dunakapu Square - noting that it was a great success. During our visit, beyond viewing the festival, we were able to speak with cooperating organizations and entrepreneurs who all wish for Győr to be more than just a one-day city, but to offer experiences that encourage tourists to stay longer. The wonderful old buildings of the downtown area and the many small shops are unique in themselves, but with programs and events, it truly becomes unforgettable.
A visit we heard about the challenges and the continuous effort to support entrepreneurs in revitalizing the shopping streets in Győr. We met many active and willing individuals, so it can be confidently said that they are on the right path. However, like any good program, they need further support and cooperation at all levels, whether it be municipal, chamber-related, or professional. Primarily, we can help by appearing on our platforms and, of course, by engaging in regular discussions from now on, sharing our experiences, and trying to maximize together what we have.
We hope that the successful shopping streets of Budapest and Győr will soon be followed by similarly successful initiatives in other major cities of the country! They can count on our support everywhere!
