A privilege of a 100th birthday – whether it's a person or a house. An opportunity for gratitude, remembrance, tribute, and of course, for gathering and celebration. This year, Budapest100 once again celebrates this special moment: the city’s century-old houses – and reveals everything that their former and current residents have experienced over a hundred years.

The list of houses opening on May 9-10 for Budapest100 is now public. The organizers will return to the festival's original concept in 2026: the celebration of 100-year-old houses, but they will not forget the “birthday celebrants” that were previously missed. Thus, the festival, which is entering its 16th year, is preparing for a bigger communal birthday than ever before.

This year, the buildings that opened were constructed between 1916 and 1926. Visitors can explore downtown apartment buildings, suburban villas, churches, cinemas, department stores, and even kindergartens.

With this year’s theme selection, the organizers, the Contemporary Architecture Centre, aim to draw attention to the values that today’s 100-year-old buildings carry from the city’s past and what they mean in today's urban life. However, the century-old houses are not merely architectural values: they are carriers of stories. Imprints of generations’ lives, memories of communities, witnesses to the changes in the city. The goal of the festival is to make these stories visible and experiential again – and to shape them into a true communal celebration for one weekend.

The detailed program for the Open House Weekend taking place on May 9-10 will be published by the organizers on April 22 on the Budapest100 website. The printed program brochure will be available at the Contemporary Architecture Centre, the Blinken OSA Archives, and other designated locations, which the organizers will announce on their social media platforms. Registrations for programs that require signing up will open on April 23, but most programs can be visited without registration, allowing anyone to join the city’s largest birthday celebration.

The project is implemented with the financial support of the Pro Cultura Urbis Foundation. The realization of the festival was supported by the National Cultural Fund. The organizers also thank all those who contributed during their community fundraising to make this special birthday celebration possible.

The Contemporary Architecture Centre believes that the city and architecture are a common cause. Community support also contributes to maintaining its work and realizing free programs like Budapest100.

The foundation encourages everyone to donate 1% of their personal income tax to the organization. This donation directly helps the KÉK's professional activities and ensures that it can continue to create open, accessible programs for everyone.
