Sustainability in practice – report on the March BUM Business Breakfast

The event also discussed the Hello Margit! festival, which will take place from May 14 to 17, 2026, in the Margit Quarter. The multi-day event aims to showcase the diversity of the district through cultural, musical, gastronomic, and community programs, and to strengthen the local community and cultural life.

An presentation introducing the concept of sustainable tourism pointed out that Budapest's thematic streets can function as ideal urban pilot zones. These spaces simultaneously connect cultural, commercial, and community functions, providing an opportunity for a more balanced development of tourism, while also supporting the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises and the strengthening of local values.

Kovács-Haraszti Ágnes's presentation drew attention to the business significance of green communication and the ESG approach. She emphasized that sustainability is not necessarily an ideological issue but can also be part of operational quality: reducing waste, transparent operations, and a conscious supply are all factors that serve both the environment and business stability. Authentic “green” communication relies not on exaggerated claims but on the actual operational decisions of businesses.

The Responsible Gastronomy Hero Foundation's introductory presentation allowed participants to learn about the organization's work, which aims to promote sustainable eating. Their programs cover various areas, from education and awareness campaigns to professional support for hospitality venues, showing how a responsible gastronomic approach based on local and seasonal ingredients can be integrated into daily operations.

The Business Breakfast again provided an opportunity for experience exchange and joint thinking. During the discussions, several participants confirmed that sustainability often begins with small, conscious decisions that strengthen the stability of businesses and the livability of urban communities in the long term.

Thank you to all participants for joining us this morning!
