National cuisines on the Belgrade waterfront – through the eyes of the Pub Tourist

It is no coincidence that we have started to see the Belgrade waterfront as a “Street of Nations”: you can meet representatives of Greek, Italian, Syrian, Lebanese, Japanese, and Spanish gastronomy close to each other. Moreover, several establishments have been present in the area for twenty to twenty-five years. As part of our collaboration with Kocsmaturista, we have now explored this colorful world – of course from a slightly different perspective. This time the question was: what is the Belgrade waterfront like if we are looking for not just a restaurant, but also a community experience, special drinks, and a more relaxed atmosphere?

Why Not Cafe & Bar – the true bar atmosphere of the waterfront

Among the establishments on the Belgrade waterfront, Why Not Cafe & Bar most embodies the classic bar atmosphere. The terrace overlooking the Danube and the Buda side is a popular meeting place, while the clientele is at least as diverse as the area itself. The venue shows a calmer face during the day, but in the evening you can encounter DJs, karaoke, and more lively programs. The drink selection is wide, especially rich in spritz offerings, but you don’t have to miss out on food either. According to Kocsmaturista’s experience, it is a vibrant, energetic place that always holds some surprises.

Kahwa – a touch of the Middle East on the waterfront

The name Kahwa means coffee in Arabic, but the place is much more than just a simple café: it is a family-style mezze bistro where Middle Eastern flavors meet direct hospitality. The family business traces its roots back to Syria, and it has been operating in its current form since 2006. The offerings are inspired partly by family recipes and the Middle Eastern mezze culture. The cozy, detail-rich interior feels a bit like stepping into a Middle Eastern bazaar. Furthermore, Kahwa is a true community space with returning guests and a direct atmosphere that makes it easy to stay a bit longer than planned.

Tapas Fino – the more elegant face of Spain

Tapas Fino brings the world of Spanish tapas bars into a more elegant restaurant environment. It features a modern, bright interior, direct service, and dishes that entice sharing. Alongside the menu, the drink selection is also prominent: Spanish beers, vermouths, sherries, cavas, and creative cocktails complement the tapas experience. Of course, the classic patatas bravas must not be missed, which proved to be particularly memorable during Kocsmaturista's visit. The place is a good example of how to maintain the social, direct atmosphere of Spanish gastronomy in a more refined restaurant setting.

Trattoria Toscana – a quarter-century of Italian lifestyle

Trattoria Toscana has been representing Italian, particularly Tuscan cuisine on the Belgrade waterfront for 25 years. The place consciously preserves its classic Italian style: the atmosphere of the interior, the ingredients, the recipes, and even the method of pizza making all carry on this heritage. In addition to the kitchen, the carefully curated wine list is particularly noteworthy, offering a wide selection of Hungarian and Italian wines. The clientele includes both tourists and returning Hungarian regulars. All of this is made even more special by the panoramic view of Gellért Hill and the Liberty Bridge.

Bamboo Grove Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar – worth exploring for more than just sushi

At first glance, Bamboo Grove primarily draws attention as a Japanese restaurant and sushi bar, but Kocsmaturista discovered another specialty. The restaurant harbors a surprisingly exciting and diverse drink menu, which significantly features Japanese beverages. This makes it interesting for those who are also eager to discover lesser-known flavors alongside dinner. Thus, Japan is represented not only through food but also through drinks in the international culinary offerings of the Belgrade waterfront. It is worth taking a closer look at the drink menu as well as the food menu.

Cafe Brunch Budapest – Waterfront – breakfast with a view

The Cafe Brunch Budapest location on the waterfront showcases another face of the area's international culinary offerings: breakfast and brunch take center stage here. The proximity to the Danube and the panorama provide a special backdrop for a leisurely breakfast or a daytime meeting. The menu includes classic brunch dishes along with coffees and refreshments, making it worthwhile to stop by at various times throughout the day. The place fits well among the diverse dining options on the Belgrade waterfront while representing its own light and modern character. It serves as a good example of how the waterfront can be a great destination not just for evening dinners and drinking, but also for a pleasant start to the day.

Kocsmaturista's adventures did not stop at the Belgrade waterfront: the area, particularly nearby Molnár Street, holds additional international spots. A Mexican vibe, Irish pub ambiance, Bavarian beers, and a completely unique selection of spirits are also part of the exploration. Thus, the Belgrade waterfront and its surroundings are much more than what one might notice during a quick walk. We hope that the “Street of Nations” will not only continue as a name in the coming years but also grow stronger as an increasingly active local entrepreneurial community.
