Shopping Street Management short presentation

We continue our series on the work and professionalism of BUM, starting this year with a short summary.

Shopping Street Management

A velünk együttműködő vállalkozások egy egyedi kereskedelemfejlesztési projekt, egy inspiráló, fenntartható, a várost új oldaláról megmutató kezdeményezés részévé válnak.

BUM builds communities, creates value.

For small retailers, shop owners, all players in the local economy, and customers alike, creating a livable urban environment is a primary interest. In several parts of the city, entrepreneurs have joined forces and, inspired by European models, have established an increasing number of so-called “thematic streets” in Budapest by coordinating their marketing efforts. Today, we are proud to say that we maintain ongoing, high-quality professional collaborations with 15 districts of the capital.

To support this process, the Budapest Chamber of Commerce and Industry established the Shopping Street Management (BUM) initiative in 2013. The aim of BUM Nonprofit Ltd. is to assist and develop commerce in targeted areas, increase foot traffic to these streets, and prevent the decline of traditional shopping streets and retail spaces.

To achieve this, BUM organizes events, engages in marketing and communication activities, contributes to the development of trade and tourism, supports entrepreneurship, conducts research and analysis, addresses the issue of vacant commercial properties (through Kibérelem.hu), and places importance on digitalization, cultural values, and sustainability.

All of this forms BUM’s own know-how, which it continuously expands and is happy to share.

BUM: A Bridge and a Community

BUM is the organizational unit of the Budapest Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BKIK) that maintains daily contact with nearly 300 businesses. This close relationship allows BUM to understand their challenges - challenges that reflect broader sectoral difficulties as well. At the same time, this community has strong retaining power, which was clearly demonstrated during the pandemic: while 25-30% of businesses in Budapest were forced to close, only 11% ceased operations within the thematic streets.

BUM operates online platforms that strongly distinguish it among BKIK’s units. Its Facebook page has over 50,000 followers, and the website bevasarloutca.hu receives approximately 100,000 visitors annually. Across all platforms, BUM generates around 2 million impressions per year.

And below, all of this is displayed in a more visual format - along with some exciting figures!
