What is the NYITVA! Festival of Rental Shops about?
The NYITVA! Festival is more than just a cultural event: it is a collaborative form of real estate leasing. During the program, empty, rental commercial spaces in Budapest will be occupied by location-seeking initiatives and businesses selected by a local, professional jury. Owners and tenants can test their cooperation with reduced risks, enabling them to make an informed decision about continuation by the end of the festival.

Who has applied for the NYITVA! Festival of Rental Shops?
For the call announced in December, nearly 100 projects have applied, which is an absolute record in the 5-year history of the NYITVA! Festival. The ideas came from numerous fields – ranging from gastronomy and sustainable fashion to artistic and community-building initiatives – and the organizers have successfully reached a diverse audience with this opportunity.
The professional jury was looking for ideas that respond to local needs, engage local communities, and emphasize creativity and sustainability. At the beginning of April, 8 entrepreneurs will move into 6 municipal commercial spaces to test their ideas without risks – i.e., without paying rent – from the end of April until the end of June. The organizers supported the launch of businesses with a group mentoring program, and the municipal commercial spaces were prepared for the tenants by the Józsefvárosi Gazdálkodási Központ.

Who will be moving into the shops on Népszínház Street and its surroundings?
- the MicroVibes, where microgreens are grown locally, bringing conscious nutrition closer;
- the Secontaste Upcycling (Food) Space, where a pop-up store and programs make the zero-waste concept a tangible experience;
- the LUPÉ, which operates as a creative space, educational venue, and photographic studio;
- the ChewBabka, where babka is not just a cake, but a daily celebration – the space serves as a workshop, tasting area, and meeting point;
- Mosaic Mónika's workshop, where she creates unique pieces using traditional techniques and shares her knowledge through workshops for adults and children,
- the Menedék reKult - recycling and meeting point, which serves inclusion and opportunity creation with its community space and donation shop;
- the MODULAR, an open and inclusive community space where culture, activism, and relaxation strengthen each other;
- as well as the MAACRAFT - The social workshop, where design objects made by creators with autism and intellectual disabilities can be purchased, and visitors can gain insight into the workshop process.

What can visitors expect at the Nyitva Festival?
From April 24–26, an energetic festival opening weekend will kick off the series of events: the newly settled businesses in the neighborhood will prepare events and workshops while local community actors will also join with exciting programs. The entire Népszínház Street will come alive: participatory dance performances, local history walks and exhibitions, film screenings at Teleki Market, urban zine and postcard-making workshops await both locals and visitors alike. The full program is available on the opening weekend's Facebook event.
The community programs organized in the shops and public spaces will accompany the two-month NYITVA! festival, which the organizers will announce on the NYITVA! Festival website, social media pages, and printed program booklet.

How does the NYITVA! Festival conclude?
At the end of the festival, entrepreneurs will be able to choose long-term occupancy, for which the Józsefvárosi Municipality offers a long-term rental program. The shops will also gain higher visibility, thus they can attract the interest of new tenants. In this way, the program can enrich the area with quality businesses that respond to local needs and community initiatives, while the empty shops are filled with life, the cityscape improves, the local economy strengthens, and creativity finds space.
