As a result of regular professional consultation with the Vienna Chamber of Commerce (WKO), we were able to gain insight into a similar programme dealing with empty shops outside. The Shopping Street Management in Vienna, established by the WKO in 1993, served as a model for initiatives here.
Now, the new "MeinKaufStadtWien" brand in Vienna's regional shopping model brings together shopping streets, markets, residential areas and city centre shopping centres. Young target audiences will be encouraged to shop locally through urban analogue and digital media platforms, with existing shopping street associations in the districts and streets being important partners and influencers.
Freielokale.at in Vienna, like Kibérelem.hu in Hungary, is essentially dedicated to promoting vacant retail space, supporting entrepreneurs in their search for a location and providing extensive information on the real estate market. It seeks to survey the entire European Economic Area in terms of available vacancies. As a result of our cooperation, visitors can now search directly for vacancies in Vienna from Kibérelem.hu. In the future we plan to develop a broader international cooperation with our colleagues abroad.
