The Cultural Heritage Days are part of the European Heritage Days. In Hungary it is usually organised on the 3rd weekend of September. Certain institutions and buildings otherwise closed for the public welcome visitors this weekend.

In the spring of 2006 and idea came up to open the Falk Miksa Street to the public: as a result, the Falk Art Forum Festival of Antique and Modern Art was established. Thousands of people come to these events every year. Nowadays this street and its neighbourhood is called Gallery Quarter.

The European Heritage Days are the most widely celebrated participatory cultural event shared by the citizens of Europe. The Council of Europe launched the initiative in 1985, and in 1999 was joined by the European Union to create the joint action, which has continued up to the present day. Conceivably, the Programme, which can boast up to 20 million visitors every year, generates the greatest value, Euro for Euro, of any “European” cultural project.
