It is for nearly twenty years that Mr Tamás Kieselbach has been one of the most significant and determining figures of the Hungarian art market.
It is since the 1980s that Mr Kieselbach has been engaged in the art trade. Having obtained a degree both in art history and art management, it took him less than a decade to create and publish in book format the major Hungarian private art collection of the epoch. Staging 40 painting and three photograph auctions, Mr Kieselbach both edited and published the most important comprehensive book about the history of Hungarian painting ever. In addition, he published close upon two dozen volumes on art. It can be stated without any doubt that over the past three decades it is Mr Kieselbach who has seen and examined the most Hungarian paintings, and has mastered an unprecedented range of knowledge through everyday discourse with works of art and an incessant compulsion to make decisions on authenticity and artistic value. It is with unparalleled effectiveness that Mr Kieselbach utilises his knowledge as a means of attributing both Hungarian and foreign paintings to artists and determining the quality of those paintings. It is on a regular basis that almost all major art dealers and auction houses beyond Hungary’s borders seek Mr Kieselbach’s advice on Hungarian painting.
